Aims and Objectives

The Sussex Otters Swimming Club, based in Chichester, was set up to enable people with an illness or disability - no matter how severe - to enjoy recreational swimming in a safe and friendly environment, together with their friends and family.

We have exclusive use of the main swimming pool at the Westgate Centre, Chichester, for our weekly sessions each Saturday afternoon from 4.30 to 5.30 throughout the year.

The Club has an experienced team of volunteers who are available to help any member who requires support, whether in the changing areas or in the water.

We have wheelchairs for use in wet areas and a hydraulic changing bed to assist carers/parents when changing swimmers who have a physical disability.

There is a hoist and a set of slope type steps to enable less agile swimmers to enter and exit the water. There are a variety of swimming aids and water toys available.

We do ask that prospective members provide evidence that recreational swimming would benefit them and not aggravate or worsen any existing condition.
